Vandals spray 'SNP out' on MSP's South Lanarkshire office
Aileen Campbell says she's been left "deeply saddened" by the incident
An SNP MSP has said she is “deeply saddened” after her office was vandalised.
The words “SNP out” were spray-painted on Aileen Campbell's constituency office in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, and a window was smashed overnight on Tuesday.
The Communities and Local Government Secretary has reported the attack to police.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, she said: “An attack on my office last night, which has been reported to the police, has saddened me deeply.
“I have a duty of care for the people who work in my office and this is clearly upsetting for them, as well as for the other tenants in the building and our neighbours.
“People can disagree about politics, but there is no excuse for mindless aggression, vandalism or violence which causes stress and anxiety in our local communities.”
She vowed not to be “dragged down by the mindless act of a minority”.
Politicians from her own party and others condemned the attack.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report of vandalism at a constituency office on Kirkton Street, Carluke, around 8.40am on Wednesday November 27, 2019.
“The incident is believed to have happened between 9pm on Tuesday November 26 and 8am on Wednesday November 27.
“Inquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0634 of November 27.”
