Vandals have targeted a memorial in Lanarkshire dedicated to a man who set up a walking group for locals.

It's the second time the plaque, in memory of Brian Reid from East Kilbride, has been destroyed since he died in September last year.

The original plaque dedicated to Brian before it was destroyed.

His friend of 30 years and co-founder of the walking group Murray12 Walkers, Billy McCabe, said: "I am really disappointed and I cannot believe this has happened again.

"It is a tribute to a dear friend."

A member of the walking group got permission from South Lanarkshire Council to put the plaque on the stone bridge on Burnhouse Road, Auldhouse.

It has since become known as "Brian's Bridge".

The ex-police officer added: "Whoever has removed the plaque has used considerable force and they have clearly used an implement of some sort to get it off of the wall.

"As a group we sit at that wall every morning and people often walk past us and ask about the plaque and about Brian.

"It is not just a silly wee sign, it's a momento for us as friends of Brian."

Billy claims he will get a new plaque made up in time for Brian's first anniversary next month.

"The money is irrelevant, it is just a tribute for us to see every day.

"His daughter had not yet seen the plaque and she has asked me to take her to see it next month and I certainly will."
