Two thieves, who posed as cops to steal cars in Glasgow, jailed

Two brazen thieves who impersonated police officers to steal a trusting man’s BMW have been caged for a total of almost six years.

David Gordon, 20, and Brian Murdoch, 21, used stolen police uniforms to dupe the owner into thinking they were officers helping him trace his lost phone.

When he went into his house to get paperwork to prove that the lost mobile was his, they stole his car.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court the pair admitted impersonating police officers and stealing the BMW on May 17, this year.

They also admitted assaulting a 58 year old man and his wife a month earlier on April 17, at Glasgow Road, Paisley, threatening them with a knife at them and robbing them of their car.

Gordon pled guilty to other charges including stealing a car in March at Blair Street, Glasgow and driving without insurance and while disqualified as well as reset of a car and police uniforms on April 5.

Sheriff Daniel Scullion told the pair “no disposal other than a significant custodial one is appropriate”.

He ordered Gordon - who was on licence at the time - return to Polmont Young Offenders’ Institute for a year before serving a 31 month sentence for these crimes.

And, he handed Murdoch 38 months. Both men will be supervised for a year after their release.
