Two men injured in knife attack in Greenock

Two men needed hospital treatment after they were knifed by two people who smashed the window of the van they were sitting in.

The victims, aged 28 and 36, were sitting in a silver Renault Trafic van in Weir Street, near to Sinclair Street in Greenock, Inverclyde, when the attack happened on Saturday afternoon.

Two suspects came up and damaged the windows of the vehicle and assaulted both men with a knife.

The victims were both taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where one was treated for a stab wound and the other for lacerations. They were released after treatment.

Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened between 4.30 and 4.45pm.

Detective Sergeant Neil Martin said: 'Officers are following a number of lines of inquiry in relation to this incident.

'We believe that this was a targeted attack on these two men and officers are in the area carrying out house-to-house inquiries and gathering CCTV footage to establish more information on this serious assault and identify the two men responsible.

'At the time of the incident, Weir Street and Sinclair Street would have been busy, and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information that will assist our investigation to contact police at Greenock through 101 quoting reference number 3426 of 21st July.
