Detectives are hunting a gang of teenagers who attacked two men in Glasgow leaving one with a broken arm and the other a facial injury.

The victims, both aged 24, were set upon by the group of up to 20 youths in Baillieston at around 1800 hrs on Saturday night.

The attack happened as the pair were walking along a footpath between Old Wood Road and Stirling Path.

The pair were released from Monklands Hospital after treatment.

The youths involved are described as between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. They were wearing a variety of dark clothing, mainly tracksuit trousers and tops.

Following the incident, the group ran through an area, known locally as Bannerman Park, towards Barrachnie and Garrowhill areas.

Detectives have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are seeking to obtain CCTV footage to review from in and around the area.

Forensic officers have also been conducting a search of the area and a number of items seized for forensic examination.

Detective Constable Nick McGlynn said: “Clearly this group was intent on causing trouble – there was no motive for the attack other than to target two men who were on their way home. We are following up a number of lines of enquiry but I know there is still information out there and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact us.”

Chief Inspector Stephen Hazlett said: “I’m sure this incident may be of concern to local residents, however let me reassure everyone that we will be using all our resources to trace the group of youths responsible. We are already following up on information and are confident of a positive outcome. Additional officers will be patrolling the area to provide reassurance and if anyone has any concerns, please speak to officers.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact CID officers at Shettleston Police Office on 101.
