Two men arrested in connection with five robberies

Detectives have arrested two men in connection with five alleged armed robberies. The first incident happened at a William Hill bookmakers in St Leonard's Square, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, on June 1 when staff were allegedly threatened by a man before he made off with cash.

Later on the same night, staff in the Spar Store at The Cross in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, were said to have been subjected to a similar attack.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, similar incidents are said to have occurred at Murco service station in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, and Old Coach Road service station and BP Queensway North service station, both East Kilbride, where two men allegedly entered the premises, threatened staff and made off with cash.

Two men aged 30 and 24 have been charged in connection with the incidents and are expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court in South Lanarkshire on Friday.

Police Scotland said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
