Two men have admitted killing a security guard at a housing development in Newarthill last October.

21 year old Scott Pearson and Ryan Hunter, who's 27, faced a charge of murdering Mohammad Abu Sammour last October.

The pair were in the dock for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Pearson's QC Tony Graham and Herbert Kerrigan QC, defending Hunter, each offered to plead guilty to a reduced and amended charge of culpable homicide.

But, prosecutor Murdoch MacTaggart told the court: “The plea is not acceptable.”

It means Pearson and Hunter will stand trial for murder in September.

The fatal attack is said to have occurred at the Torrance Gardens development in Newarthill, Lanarkshire last October 28.

It is alleged the pair were acting with an un-named person and assaulted Mohammad while he was working.

The charge includes claims the 49 year-old was punched as well as hit with a knuckleduster and brick.

Mohammad is said to have been knocked unconscious and hit with a vehicle, which was then driven over him.

The indictment states he was so severely injured, he later died in hospital.

The pair also face a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Lord Arthurson fixed a trial, which could last up to eight days.
