Two people have died after a car plunged into a loch in Argyll.

Police were called out after a vehicle was spotted on the shore of Loch Caolisport on Sunday morning, and the bodies of a 27-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were found nearby.

The car is thought to have left the B8024 Tarbert to Inverneil road and fallen into the water. The road was closed for several hours as officers carried out a crash investigation.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident, which has resulted in the deaths of two people.

“I would urge anyone with information which could help our investigation or who may have seen the car at any time overnight to let us know as soon as they can.

“Any information can be passed to police by calling 101, quoting incident 1164 of 26 January.”
