Police arrest two men, 20 and 17, after Pollokshields Bonfire Night disorder

Two men, aged 20 and 17, have been charged in connection with firework offences, after police were called to ugly scenes in Pollokshields on Bonfire Night.

Specialist officers from Operation Moonbeam and local officers were called out to scenes of disorder in the town.

Groups of youths targeting police officers, vehicles, and public property with projectiles, including fireworks, bricks and other items.

No officers were injured during this time, however, police say the incidents caused "significant disruption and alarm to the public" and a full criminal investigative strategy was launched on Wednesday 6 November.

A 20-year-old man was charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal and a 17-year-old youth was charged in connection with fireworks offences on Tuesday, 5 November, 2024.

Officers in Glasgow continue to investigate the disorder experienced in the Pollokshields during Bonfire Night and are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying those responsible.

Chief Superintendent Lynn Ratcliff, divisional commander for Greater Glasgow division, said: “We said in the wake of the disorder we experienced that everyone responsible would be brought to justice and that remains the case.

“Significant investigative resource is being dedicated for identifying all of those involved in the offences we witnessed, and we will be unfaltering in our pursuit of these individuals.

“The public have a really important role to play by sharing any information or evidence they have relating to the disorder. They can do this via our Major Incident Public Portal, calling 101, or making an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Officers have said they have a "significant quantity of CCTV and other evidential footage" to review as part of the ongoing inquiries.
