A 67 year-old man has been sentenced to jail time for killing his wife.

Ian Gordon admitted placing a pillow over her face last April restricting her breathing.

He was cleared of murder but convicted of culpable homicide with diminished responsibility.

His trial at the High Court in Glasgow heard evidence from a Doctor who said it was "highly likely" 63 year-old Patricia Gordon had lung cancer.

It also heard she was visited by medial staff on several occasions and had been prescribed antibiotics for pneumonia two days before she died.

But it was evidence from the couple's daughter which saw Gordon cleared of muder.

She had told the court how the couple had made a pact that Gordon would help Patricia in the end.

Today he was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh to 3 years and 4 months behind bars.
