An investigation's underway after a teenage boy was discovered dead in a house in North Ayrshire.

The 14-year-old, who has been named locally as Ross Gentleman, was found in a property on Eglinton Road in Ardrossan on Sunday evening.

Locals paid tribute to him on social media after the news of his death emerged.

A police investigation is underway, while the local authority described it as 'tragic news'.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At 6:05pm on Sunday, November 5, police received a report of the death of a 14-year-old boy in Eglinton Road, Ardrossan.

“A post mortem will be carried out in due course.”

North Ayrshire Council's Executive Director for Education and Youth Employment John Butcher said: "This is tragic news and our thoughts are with the family at this extremely difficult time.

“We will continue to consider the well-being of pupils and staff and we will be doing everything possible to ensure they are supported and helped throughout.
