Trial of driver accused of injuring Jermain Defoe postponed

A driver accused of injuring Rangers star Jermain Defoe has had his trial postponed due to the club’s match tonight against Galatasaray.

James Turner, 24, allegedly drove dangerously in Balashgray Road, Jordanhill, Glasgow, last September.

Prosecutors claim Turner’s BMW M4 crossed a central reservation and collided with two vehicles on the opposing carriageway.

It is said the Peugeot 308 and Land Rover Sport then collided with a Mercedes-Benz A 200.

The incident allegedly “caused damage to said vehicles and injury to Jermain Defoe and Nicole Leonard.”

Defoe, 37, was in action that day having scored in a 5-0 win at Ibrox against Aberdeen.

A trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court was set to take place today.

Turner, of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, pleaded not guilty from the dock.

But, prosecutor Lesley Chambers requested the hearing be adjourned due to the “unavailability of witnesses.”

The Gers are set to take on Turkish giants Galatasaray at Ibrox Stadium tonight in the UEFA Europa League where Defoe is named in the preliminary squad.

The trial was moved to February next year by Sheriff Diane McConnell who continued Turner’s bail meantime.
