Trespasser electrocuted on Glasgow rail line

A one person's died after been electrocuted on a railway line at Dumbreck on the south side of Glasgow in the early hours.

All the lines between Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow were closed until around 7am causing disruption to commuters on the lines from Ayrshire and Inverclyde.

A 29 year old man's been arrested on suspicion of tresspass and vandalism.

A statement from British Transport Police read: “Shortly after 1.00am today (4th Dec) officers from British Transport Police were called to the line close to Dumbreck, Glasgow following reports that a person had been injured on the tracks.

“Officers attended the location alongside colleagues from Police Scotland and the ambulance service, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining serious injuries believed to be caused by electrocution.

“A 29-year-old man, from Glasgow, has also been arrested on suspicion of trespass and vandalism in connection with the incident.

“An investigation into this incident is now underway and officers are making enquiries to understand how the person came to be on the tracks.

“Police are asking that anyone who was near Dumbreck station at the time and saw anything to please get in touch.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information should contact BTP by sending a text to 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 - quoting reference 18 of 4 December.
