Tory MSP frustrated over lack of progress to reform parole system in Scotland

A Tory MSP is telling us he is frustrated at the lack of progress in giving victims and families more of a say in when their attacker is released from jail across Scotland.

Jamie Greene wants the Scottish Government to reconsider amendments to a bill he put forward with the help of Ellie Wilson from Glasgow and Lisa Stewart from Ayr.

Fourteen amendments to the Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform Bill are being considered by the Scottish Government.

He told Clyde 1: "I've had the honour of meeting many victims of crime who've been active campaigners for justice reform.

"I am sorry that the government has rejected a number of them and I only hope it reconsiders some decisions being taken."

Yesterday we told you the Justice Secretary Angela Constance was "very willing" to consider meeting with Ellie and Lisa to discuss making changes to the parole system in Scotland.

Jamie added: "I think this is the only opportunity Holyrood has in this session of Parliament to make these changes.

"I just hope Angela Constance is in the frame of mind to make the necessary improvements to the parole system after historic Justice Secretaries have failed to keep to their promises."
