A man charged with trying to kill a two year-old boy in Cambuslang has appeared in court.

David McMullen allegedly left the toddler with serious injuries at a house in December 2016.

Prosecutors claim the 33 year-old did “inflict blunt force trauma” on the child's body by means “unknown”.

McMullen faces a separate charge of assaulting the same boy on various occasions between June and December 2016 at the same address.

He is also accused of attacking a five year-old boy at a property in Linwood in May 2009.

It is alleged he grabbed the child, prodded him with his fingers and severely injured him by putting him in a bath of hot water.

McMullen appeared for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow today, with his QC Gordon Jackson pleading not guilty on his behalf.

No trial was set and Judge Lady Rae instead adjourned the case for a further hearing next month.

McMullen, of the city's Provanmill, had his bail continued meantime.
