Thug Jailed After Stirlingshire Taxi Rank Attempted Murder
A thug who tried to kill a man at a taxi rank then asked for help to bury him has been jailed for more than seven years. Gregor Thomson kicked, stamped and jumped on the head of Desmond McCart last September leaving the victim fighting for life. The 56 year-old was so badly hurt, surgeons had to use 14 plates to reconstruct his face. A judge heard how Mr McCart now needs a team of carers to help him with basic tasks such as standing up and walking. Unemployed Thomson (26) today/yesterday appeared at the High Court in Glasgow after pleading guilty to a charge of attempted murder. It emerged he already had a violent criminal record stretching back to when he was only 13. Lady Scott locked up him for seven years and three months adding he presented a "serious risk of harm to the public". The judge also ordered Thomson be supervised for a further three years on his release. The court earlier heard how the thug got into a row with Mr McCart when the victim tried to get into a taxi in Denny, Strilingshire on September 28 last year. Thomson brutally set upon the dad before he ran off shouting he had "battered a guy". He was also heard asking for help to bury Mr McCart. Mr McCart suffered fractures to his eye sockets, cheekbones, jaw and nose. He also initially went into cardiac arrest. The court was told Mr McCart had previously looked after his wife, but was now instead left with carers supporting him.
