Three women and taxi driver rushed to hospital after black cab crash in Glasgow centre

Three pedestrians and the 62-year-old taxi driver were taken to hospital after the incident on Union Street

Police are appealing for information following a serious collision in Glasgow city centre yesterday.

Two women, aged 60 and 61, and the male driver of the taxi, aged 62, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the crash on Union Street.

A 61-year-old woman was also taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Their conditions are currently unknown.

A 50-year-old woman was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans, from Police Scotland road policing, said:

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have.

"I would also ask anyone with recording equipment to check the footage as it could assist us in our ongoing investigation."

Road closures in Union Street, Renfield Street, St Vincent Street and Gordon Street have now reopened.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said:

"We received a call at 1.55pm to assist partners at Union Street in Glasgow.

"Operations control mobilised two appliances and a specialist resource to the scene."
