A crash on a Highland road west of Fort William has claimed the lives of three teenagers.

Emergency crews were called to A830 between Mallaig and Arisaig at around 11.15pm on Thursday.

Three people, the driver and two passengers in a white Ford Fiesta, were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification is yet to take place but police say they believe the deceased are all male and in their mid-teens.

The A830 was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and re-opened around 11.55am on Friday.

Inspector Donnie MacKinnon said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the people who died as a result of this crash.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
