Three people rescued from Whisky Galore beach after cow attack
One man was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow
Three people have been rescued from a famous beach on the Isle of Barra after an altercation with the local cattle.
A man and two women were encircled by the herd of cows, including one bull, while out walking yesterday evening.
The 56 year old man was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment after sustaining an injury, while the two women were taken to local St Brendan’s Hospital.
All three have since been discharged.
The beach is best known for featuring as the fictional shores of Todday in the 1948 adaptation of Compton Mackenzie’s Whiskey Galore.
Emergency crews from the police, coast guard and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
Police response
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police and emergency services were called to Eoligarry, Barra, following a report that three people, a man and two women, had been injured by a heard of cows and a bull whilst walking between near Traigh Eais and Traigh Mor.”
The incident took place at around five past eight yesterday evening.
The spokesperson added: “Advice and assistance has been given to all parties.”
They also confirmed there will be no further police action.
