A five figure sum of money has been stolen by a masked gang who targeted a Post Office cash machine in Cumbernauld Village in the early hours. Police received reports of a loud explosion and a group of men attempting to remove an ATM on Main Street at just after 0105 hours this morning. Detectives who are checking CCTV say the thieves may've used either a light coloured Audi or a Voltswagen car in their bid.

Detective Sergeant Cameron Miller is asking any witnesses to get in touch.

"The people responsible for this crime may have not only stolen a large amount of money, they have also caused significant damage to the building.

"It is important they are traced as quickly as possible and i would appeal to anyone who heard or saw anything in the area around that time to come forward, no matter how minor they think their information may be.

"Some of the witnesses we've spoken to so far have reported seeing a group of men wearing masks and dark clothing around the location before entering a light coloured Audi motor vehicle.

"A second car, possibly a Voltswagen, was also seen near the premises around that time.

"Anyone who thinks they can assist with our enquiries can contact us on the non emergency number 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where they can remain anonymous."
