The gates of Glasgow Green have opened, marking the first day of Scotland’s exciting new festival, TRNSMT.
Around 35,000 music fans are expected to flock to the city centre today (Friday) to watch acts including Radiohead, Belle and Sebastian, Rag’n’Bone Man, London Grammar and many more.
This is the inaugural year of the new DF Concerts festival, which will see some of the biggest acts in music perform over three days – with Kasabian, Biffy Clyro, The 1975 and Blossoms among the mammoth names on the bill.
Police Scotland and event organisers have commended attendees for their patience and cooperation in entering the site, as an increase in security presence and bag searches took place.
Chief Inspector Simon Jeacocke, Event Commander for Police Scotland, said: “Public safety is our top priority and we’d like to commend those attending the first day of the TRNSMT festival for their behavior and good spirits.
"No arrests have been made and we’ve had no issues with the increased security at the entry points. We’d encourage those attending over the weekend to plan their journey ahead and make sure they’re aware of what they can and can’t bring onto the site, so that they can enjoy a safe and fun festival.”
Geoff Ellis, Festival Director of TRNSMT, said: “The first day of Scotland’s newest music festival has begun, with festivalgoers heading into Glasgow Green, excited to kick off this amazing new event.
"Friday has been a great success so far, and we have a weekend packed with some of the mightiest names in music, the best street food and drink stalls and an atmosphere unlike anywhere in the world.
"Sunday Day tickets are still available at the gates but are limited - Glasgow is definitely where it’s at this weekend, so don’t miss out.”
