The 25-year-old was cycling along Eglinton Street just before 7pm last night when he was stopped by two men who threatened him and demanded he hand over his bike.
A passing motorist then stopped to assist and the two men ran off in the direction of Bedford Street.
The first man is described as in his late 20s, 5ft10, and of thin build. He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and a black hat.
The second man is described as in his mid 20s, 5ft8 and of medium build.
Detective Sergeant Peter Sharp said: “Luckily the victim wasn’t injured during this incident but he has been left badly shaken by what happened.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
