Teenagers Killed in Crash Named
Two teenage friends who died in a car crash were travelling home from college when the accident happened. Adam Crawford and Liam Whiteford, both from Paisley, died at the scene of the crash in Old Greenock Road, near Langbank, Renfrewshire, at around 3.45pm yesterday. Mr Crawford, 19, was driving two friends home from their painting and decorating course at James Watt college in Greenock when the red Seat Ibiza left the carriageway and collided with a tree, police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Mr Whiteford, 18, was the front seat passenger and another 18-year-old, who was sitting in the back of the car, was treated at Inverclyde Royal Hospital for minor injuries before being released. Officers said the families of the deceased have been "shattered'' by their loss. Sergeant Mark Miller said: "Officers have been with Adam and Liam's family all day today. They are understandably shattered by their loss. Adam is an only child and Liam is an only son - he has four sisters. "Adam was driving his friends, who are all students studying painting and decorating, home from James Watt college in Greenock when the crash happened. "I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this crash or who saw the car in Old Greenock Road, between Finlaystone Estate and Gleddoch House Hotel, prior to the crash.'' A report is to be sent to the procurator fiscal. Anyone with information can contact police on the non-emergency 101 number.
