Teenager's death near Strathclyde University not being treated as suspicious

A teenager who died following an incident near Strathclyde University in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday) morning has been named locally as Peebles student Campbell Hunter.

The 18-year-old was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment after he was found injured in the city's Rottenrow - but died shortly after.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

It had earlier been reported the incident was being treated as unexplained.

But, in an updated statement this evening (Thursday), Chief Inspector Craig Walker said: “Around 1.50am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to a report of a man found injured in Rottenrow, Glasgow.

"An 18-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment where he died a short time later.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
