Teenager treated in hospital after being hit with bottle at Troon Beach

A teenager has been treated in hospital after he was hit on the head with a bottle at Troon Beach.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a large group of youths at sand dunes close to Victoria Drive at around 8.15pm on Wednesday.

One 18-year-old man was struck on the head with a bottle, and taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers are now working to identify another youth in connection with the incident.

He is described as white, in his late teens, with short hair. He was wearing a pink t-shirt, grey shorts and spoke with a local accent.

He made off along the beach on foot in the direction of Royal Troon Golf Club after the assault.

Officers are gathering relevant CCTV footage and reviewing it for any additional information.

Detective Constable Michael Grant said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to get in touch. If anyone saw or noticed anything suspicious, or has any information on the suspect, please do get in touch with us.

“In particular, anyone with video footage that may have captured images which could assist the investigation.

“Officers will continue to patrol the beaches in Troon and across Ayrshire in the days ahead, as part of the Safer Shores initiative, and encourage the public to act responsibly if visiting the during the good weather.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference 4073 of 31 May. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
