Teenager disappearance and river sighting link probed by police
Police are investigating if there is a link over the disappearance of a teenager and a sighting of a woman in the River Clyde.
Police are investigating if there is a link over the disappearance of a teenager and a sighting of a woman in the River Clyde.
Sarah Goldie, 18, was reported missing from her home in Renfrew at about 11.40pm on Friday after leaving earlier in the day to go to Glasgow.
That evening, emergency services had responded to reports a woman was in the water close to Broomielaw near the city's King George V Bridge.
Two men had jumped into the river to help her but the woman was not traced.
Police said Ms Goldie's bag was found near to the area of the incident at the Clyde.
Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland said: "Sarah left home about 11am on Friday. We now know that later in the evening, she took a taxi from Glasgow to Renfrew; arriving near to the former Dean Park Hotel about 6pm.
"About an hour and forty minutes later, at 7.40pm, police received a call about a young woman in the River Clyde and that's also when Sarah's bag was found.
"Officers have been checking CCTV but an image of the woman who entered the water has not been captured, so at this time we cannot confirm that it was Sarah.
"A number of people came to help when the woman fell in, and we have spoken to most of them, however, we are keen to speak to the driver of a white 4x4 vehicle, possibly a Range Rover 'Evoque', who stopped at the time and also to the woman who handed in Sarah's bag.
"As we say, at this time we cannot link the two definitively, however we are keen to find out about Sarah's movements between 6pm and 7.40pm on Friday evening.
"If you were in the area and saw the young woman near to or enter the River Clyde, or if you have any information as to Sarah's whereabouts, then please contact police via 101.''
Sarah is described as white, 5ft 6ins, of medium build, with brown eyes and sandy/strawberry blonde curly hair.
She was wearing a khaki green Parka type jacket with a fur hood and was carrying a cherry red handbag.
