Teenage girl dead after house fire in Ayr

A teenager has died in a house fire in Ayr.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on York Street at around 8:30pm on Sunday, but the 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were taken to Ayr Hospital, but it's not thought their injuries are serious.

The flames have now been extinguished, and a joint police and fire service investigation has been launched to establish exactly how the fire started.

In a statement Police Scotland said: “Around 8.30 pm on Sunday 6 January 2019 emergency services were called to a report of a fire at a property on York Street, Ayr.

“An 18 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death. Her family have been made aware.”
