Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was seriously assaulted in Glasgow’s West End in the early hours yesterday morning.

A 16-year-old girl came out of the Spar shop next to Café India on Great Western Road at around 1am with her friend.

They became involved in an argument with a man who had come out of the same shop just before them.

The man then got into a saloon car before throwing a glass bottle at the victim and speeding off in the direction of Byres Road.

The 16-year-old girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she received treatment for a facial injury before being released.

The man is described as between 30 to 35 years old, with a shaven head and wearing a dark coloured rain jacket.

Detective Constable Robert Allen from Partick CID said: “This was a despicable assault on a 16 year old girl who has been left badly shaken and with a serious facial injury as a result.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.

“Anyone with information can contact officers at Partick CID on 101 or alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
