Teenager left with head injuries after Rutherglen attack

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was the victim of a serious assault incident in Rutherglen on Monday.

The 15-year-old was waiting for a bus at the stop outside a takeaway premises on Main Street at its junction with Castle Street at around 8pm.

Shortly before 8.05pm, a black SUV or estate-type vehicle pulled up to the bus stop and four people got out.

They then assaulted the teenager before getting back in the vehicle and leaving the scene.

The teenager required hospital treatment for a head injury.

All four suspects are described as being male, white, and aged in their mid to late teens or early twenties.

They were wearing dark coloured tracksuits and were believed to be in possession of baseball bats.

Detective Constable Lynn Livesey from Cambuslang CID said: “This assault lasted approximately 30 seconds with the victim backing into the bus stop to try and protect himself as he was being attacked by the group.

“We have been reviewing nearby CCTV and know that there were bystanders and vehicles which went past at the time of the incident.

We’d urge these people who may have seen what happened, or the vehicle immediately prior to, or after the assault, to come forward to officers.

“Anyone with dashcam or video footage of the assault or has any information that can help identify and trace those involved, should report this to police as soon as possible.”
