The 16-year-old, who can't be named due to a European Union directive protecting young criminals, abused the animal in Paisley in January this year.
He was due to go on trial over the incident, charged with causing the animal unnecessary suffering, but admitted his guilt minutes before his trial was due to start.
Sentence was deferred for background reports and he could be caged for as long as 12 months when he returns to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court in the new year to learn his fate.
