Tanker spillage sparks major health alert as massive flooding hits Aberfoyle
One home-owner revealed their dog ate a fish as three-feet of water rushed in
A major rescue operation is underway in Aberfoyle after a tanker overturned and spilt kerosene and diesel due to the horrendous heavy rain that’s caused widespread flooding across Scotland.
The spillage leaked into the watercourse and also contaminated the general flood water in the area.
The water surge was so bad that one resident revealed that their dog ate a fish as three-feet’s worth spilled into their home.
NHS chiefs have warned that the spill poses a "threat to public health" with "significant health risks".
Emergency services raced to the picturesque village as crews worked to deal with the extreme downpours.
Allison, who’s at trustee at the village hall, said: “Flooding is a part of life out here but we need to learn from this so we can mitigate against it Iin the future.
“There’s a terrible smell of kerosene near the play park so that is a major issue. It’s got into some people’s homes.
“Everybody has been amazingly generous after the call went out on Facebook for produce and hopefully people feel the hall is a safe place for them.
“People can stay here, and we’ve got showers too so hopefully we are making people comfortable.”
Another resident said: “Many people are cut off and others have had their homes badly flooded.
“I have only lived for 11 years and it’s the worst I have ever seen. Others say they can’t remember worse flooding.
“We just hope the authorities can get in soon and start clearing the place up.”
Many parts of the West of Scotland had a month’s rain in a day. The turbulent weather has now moved north where many roads in Perth and Kinross and the Highlands have been closed.
