A swan that became trapped in a small area of a dam in Barrhead was rescued by the Scottish SPCA.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity attended on the morning of Tuesday 23 August after the swan was discovered at the dam near Dovecothall Street.

Animal Rescue Officer Emma Bonner said, “A member of the public who was cycling past noticed the swan was stuck in a small area of the dam.

“The area was too high for him to walk out of and didn’t have enough room for him to take off.

“We were trying to coax him towards us but he kept swimming away so eventually I decided to put on a dry suit and wade into the water.

“Thankfully, I was able to catch him and release him back into the dam where he happily swam away.

“It was lovely watching him swim off quite the thing, but I think he had a laugh to himself that I was left there soaking wet!”

Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed animal should call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
