East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Councils have confirmed schools will close for three days next month due to planned industrial action.

Parents and guardians in several local authority areas were told of the closures on 6th, 7th and 8th September in letters sent on Friday afternoon.

The decision has been taken due to a strike including cleaners, janitors, pupil support staff, office staff, technical staff and catering staff.

The announcements come after similar measures were taken by Glasgow City Council.

On Thursday, it announced that all 110 nurseries, 142 primary schools, 30 secondary schools and 21 ASL schools would be shut in the interests of pupil safety.

More than three quarters of councils will be impacted by industrial action, with strikes planned across education and waste services across the country.
