Stirling has missed out on the chance to be named the UK City of Culture 2025.

The final four are Bradford, County Durham, Southampton and Wrexham County Borough.

It's the first time that counties, groups of towns and single urban areas have been able to enter, with the winner being announced in May.

Stirling was the only Scottish city to make it this far.

Scene Stirling worked alongside the council on the bid and manager Kevin Harrison says despite not making the shortlist, it's still a great achievement for the area.

He said:

"On this occasion we haven't been successful but the process itself has been invaluable.

"We really appreciate the support from local residents, artists, creatives, businesses, communities and national partners as well.

"We really feel we have galvanised together to develop a strong vision of what culture can deliver for Stirling's communities in the future."

He added:

"It's a really exciting point for us, it's just the start of the journey, one that continues this year as we celebrate twenty years of Stirling being a city.

"We look forward to sharing some new exciting cultural projects and plans in the very near future."
