A robber has admitted holding up a Stevenston petrol station- using two poled taped together to look like a shotgun.
37-year-old Scott Homer pleaded guilty to assaulting and robbing employee Linda Fry, 63, at Auchenharvie petrol station on Boglemart Street back in May.
Homer walked into the shop at 7.45am, removed the poles from under his jacket and held the item as if it was a real firearm.
He then pointed the poles at Linda and shouted “Give me the money or you are getting it.”
But Linda pushed Homer, while pleading with him not to hurt her.
Prosecutor Bernard Ablett said: “During the struggle with Linda Fry, the accused then removed a black pointed implement from a trouser pocket and brandished it as if he intended to thrust it towards her.”
Linda struggled with Homer until she was able to break free and run out the shop.
Homer got no money from the till, but he grabbed Linda's handbag which was lying nearby and left with that.
It contained bank cards and £45 in cash.
Homer was caught on CCTV cameras walking towards Hillside Court in Stevenson, when officers at Saltcoats police station viewed the footage from the petrol station shop they recognised the 37-year-old, who has previous convictions.
A warrant was then issued for his arrest, and a roll of tape, the remnants of the poles and the black pointed implement was found in his home.
Today Judge Lady Rae deferred sentence on Homer for background reports until October.
Defence counsel Tony Lenehan will give his plea in mitigation then.
