The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a male was filmed apparently kicking a seagull as it was eating chips that had been dropped on the ground in Ayr.
They were alerted after the incident occurred at the Carrick Street junction with Boswell Park on Saturday 28 July.
An undercover inspector from the Scottish SPCA's special investigations unit said: "We are being assisted by Police Scotland in our investigation and we would like to trace the individual involved and would urge anyone who recognises him to get in touch.
"Any information given to our animal helpline is treated confidentially and can be given anonymously.
"Recently we have been made aware of a number of incidents involving attacks on seagulls and would like to remind the public that gulls, like all other birds, are protected by law.
"We’d encourage the public to clear up any rubbish as gulls are attracted to it as they look for food."
Anyone with information should contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
