Spain-based dealer jailed after admitting drug-trafficking charges
A drug dealer who directed supplies and deals in Scotland from his home in Spain has been jailed for 11 years.
Heroin worth up to £5.66 million, cocaine worth £127,000, amphetamine worth £804,000 and cannabis resin with a value of £40,000 were discovered in the investigation into Roy Dunstance, the Crown Office said.
Based out of three flats in Drumchapel, Glasgow, police traced the chain of command in an organised crime group to the 39-year-old in Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol.
Through surveillance and access to his mobile phone, police found he was directing activities via Blackberry messaging, according to prosecutors.
His key contact was James Hanlon, 31, who received drugs from Dunstance via an intermediary.
The Drumchapel flats were raided and drugs found along with a double-barrelled shotgun, handgun, revolver, two sets of body armour and ammunition.
A European Arrest Warrant was issued for Dunstance and he surrendered himself in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on April 3.
He was charged with directing serious organised crime in relation to drug trafficking, possession of firearms and movement of money derived from crime, and pled guilty at the High Court in Glasgow in November, the Crown Office said.
He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Wednesday.
Hanlon pled guilty to involvement in the supply of cannabis and was sentenced to two years and four months.
Lindsey Miller, procurator fiscal for organised crime, said: "Roy Dunstance operated a large-scale drugs distribution network from his home in Spain, mistakenly believing that his location and use of technology would protect him from Scottish authorities.
"He carefully directed his couriers and enforcers in Scotland as they traded in drugs worth six-figure sums and amassed a small arsenal of weapons.
"By dismantling this gang we have taken individuals, drugs, weapons and cash off the streets where they could do damage to our communities and a Proceeds of Crime case has now begun against Dunstance to ensure that his full illegal earnings are identified and reclaimed.''
