Six-year-old girl seriously injured after being knocked down in Port Glasgow

Emergency services attended the scene at around 6pm last night.

A six-year-old girl is being treated for serious injuries in hospital after she was knocked down in Port Glasgow yesterday.

At around six o'clock on Friday 12 April, the girl was crossing the road on Slaemuir Avenue when she was struck by a van.

Emergency services attended and she was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow where she is still being treated for serious injuries.

Sergeant Chris McKay, Greenock Police Office, said:

"Our officers are currently trying to establish exactly what happened here and are going through CCTV footage.

"The girl had just gotten off a bus on Slaemuir Avenue before the incident happened and therefore there were lots of people in the area at the time.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have dash-cam footage from this area of Port Glasgow to get in touch with us."
