A sex attacker caught after his victim helped identify him on Facebook has been jailed for four years.

Kevin Battersby repeatedly preyed on the young girl at a house in Glasgow's east end between 2002 and 2004.

The 36 year-old later confessed to being a "bad man" in 2022 before being charged by police.

Battersby was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier pleaded guilty to lewd and libidinous behaviour as well as possession of indecent images.

His lawyer had urged Lord Arthurson not to jail the pervert highlighting a number of factors including Battersby's own age at the time, personal circumstances and him admitting to police what he had done.

But, the judge said he had to be locked up for what he described as "repeated and predatory" behaviour.

Battersby will also be supervised for a further three years on his release.

The court earlier heard how it was in late 2022 when the victim bravely reported her ordeal to police.

It was only when she had got older she realised what happened was "not right".

Prosecutor Lucy Adams stated: "She was able to identify Battersby from his Facebook profile."

Shop worker Battersby, of the city's Tollcross, had initially handed himself into police in April 2023 when he became aware officers wanted to speak to him.

He was then released due to insufficient evidence.

Battersby mum asked him what the police wanted. He denied doing anything wrong.

But, he soon confessed that he had been "a bad man, many years ago".

Battersby went on to state to police this time: "I want you to arrest me as I am a dirty man. I want to admit my guilt."

A number of electronic devices he had were also checked.

A total of 11 sick photos of children were discovered on the iPad.

Sentencing, Lord Arthurson had been guilty of "grooming behaviour" and "skilful manipulation" of the victim.

Battersby was also put on the sex offenders list indefinitely.
