Several evacuated as firefighters tackle High Rise blaze

'Several people' have been evacuated from their homes as firefighters tackle a blaze on a top floor flat in Glasgow.

Police say they received reports of the fire shortly after 1 o'clock this afternoon.

One man is being treated for smoke inhalation by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Nearby roads have also been closed - London Road is shut to all traffic between Springfield Cross and Macbeth Street.

A spokesman for the force said: “At around 1.05pm on Sunday police and fire service attended a report of fire within a top floor flat in Helenvale Street, Glasgow.

“A number of people have been evacuated from the flats and the fire has now been extinguished by SFRS.

“One man is currently being treated by SAS for smoke inhalation.

“Enquiries will be carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.”
