Series of suspicious blazes in Dumbarton sparks police appeal
Officers are searching for the person responsible after four fires in five days

Detectives in Clydebank are appealing for information after a spate of deliberate fires in the Dumbarton area. Four fires have been started in five days in the area but officers have not yet found the person responsible.
Around 8.55pm on Sunday 14 July 2019, a Fiat Doblo van was set on fire while parked on Overburn Road, Dumbarton outside Brock Bowling Club. The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and the vehicle was taken away for forensic examination.
On the same night and at around the same time, another fire was set in Jewsons Builders Yard on Overburn Avenue, causing damage to stock. Fire fighters again put out the blaze without any injuries.
Two more deliberate fires were started later in the week on Thursday 18 July 2019, both in tehe Dumbarton. The first was set at Jewsons in Overburn Avenue and another at Ferguson Flooring on Ash Road, Dumbarton.
Nobody was injured as a result of either incident.
Detective Constable Russell Campbell is appealing for information. He said “Our enquiries are continuing into each of these incidents to establish who is responsible for setting these fires. For the information gathered so far, we are linking these incidents.
“I would ask anyone who was in these areas around the times stated who witnessed anything suspicious, or anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to contact Clydebank Police Office through 101 quoting 4307 of 14th July 2019. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
