Security guard robbed outside bank in Parkhead

A security guard is been robbed outside a Clydesdale bank on Shettleston Road in Glasgow.

Around 6.20pm on Sunday evening, the 57 year-old G4S security guard was outside when he was approached by two men. They both threatened him with a weapon and robbed him of a money cassette containing a five-figure sum of money.

The two suspects are described as:

1. Around 6 feet in height and of stocky build and wearing a dark green coloured jacket.

2. Around 5 feet 8 inches in height and of medium build wearing dark coloured clothing.

The two men made off in a blue coloured Ford Focus eastbound on Shettleston Road. A short time later police were informed of a car on fire at the rear of flats in Budhill Avenue, Glasgow. This is believed to be the vehicle involved in this robbery.

The 57 year-old security guard received a hand injury and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated then later released. Although he was not seriously injured he has been left badly shaken as a result of this incident.

Detective Inspector Clark Hill of the Community Investigation Unit at Helen Street Police Office is appealing for information. He said:

"This violent robbery has left the victim extremely distressed. It is totally unacceptable that someone is targeted whilst simply trying to do their job and the men responsible quite clearly had no regard for the victim.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this cash in transit robbery and are appealing to the public for any information that will help us trace the men responsible for this robbery as soon as possible. I would urge any witnesses to the robbery itself, or anyone with information on car set on fire at Budhill Avenue to come forward to police. This vehicle is currently undergoing forensic examination.”

“At this time we are not linking this robbery to a similar robbery outside the Royal Bank of Scotland on Duke Street on Friday afternoon, however we cannot rule anything out at this stage.”

It comes days after a G4S van was reportedly held up on Duke Street and a five figure sum of cash stolen.
