Secondary teachers out on strike for third time

Members of the EIS union in West Dunbartonshire will walk off the job next Tuesday and Wednesday

The high school teachers strike in West Dunbartonshire is escalating.

EIS members from will stage their 3rd walk out next week - this time for 2 days on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th March.

It is impacting on Clydebank High School, St Peter the Apostle High School, Dumbarton Academy, Vale of Leven Academy and Our Lady and St Patrick's High School.

The row is about plans to reform the management structure by getting rid of principle posts.

The council says: "we remain committed to doing everything we can to resolve this matter and had a number of negotiating meetings with the EIS arranged for this week. It is therefore extremely disappointing that the EIS have announced further strike action before these meetings have even taken place. This undermines the negotiations and causes further anxiety and unrest across our communities. It also illustrates the challenge we are facing in trying to reach a reasonable conclusion to this matter. It was hoped that the EIS would have awaited the outcome of these meetings before making any decision to strike, and once again causing disruption among parents, guardians and pupils."

The local authority says in change to previous strike days, when all five secondary schools were closed to all pupils, they intend to provide a partial timetable where possible for pupils sitting Highers and Advanced Highers. School libraries will also be open to provide an area for S5 and S6 pupils to study.

Clyde News has contacted the EIS for a statement and we are awaiting a response.
