Second man arrested after man dies in alleged disturbance in Airdrie

A second man has been arrested and charged after a man died in an alleged disturbance.

Peter McElroy, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene in High Street, Airdrie, on Sunday.

Officers were called to an alleged disturbance at around 4.40pm.

Gerard McGinlay, 38, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday charged with his murder.

McGinlay was also charged with handling an offensive weapon.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Police Scotland said a 47-year-old man has now been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault.

He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.
