Police have named the murder victim found in Uddingston as 18 year old Sean Banks.

The body of the local teenager, who was from the Viewpark area of Uddingston, was found on North British Road just after midnight on Saturday morning.

Sean’s family said: “We have suffered a traffic loss. Sean will be sadly missed and we would ask that everyone respects our privacy at this time.”

Detectives now believe that Sean may have been involved in an altercation with a group of youths on North British Road prior to his death. They believe the incident may have taken place near the tunnel which passes directly under the M74.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Boyd from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: "Around 2240 hours last night there were a number of youths who were near the entrance to St John the Baptist Primary School in North British Road and we believe that Sean may have been involved in an altercation with someone from this group. We are studying CCTV from the surrounding area and would appeal to anyone near the school or in North British Road at this time to contact us. “A local man has been murdered and I’m sure that local residents will be shocked by that news. However I am sure they hold the key and I am appealing to them to contact us with any information, no matter how trivial it may seem, please pass it on to police.” "Anyone with any information or knowledge of the crime is asked to contact detectives at East Kilbride Police Office on the non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information without giving your name."
