Scottish SPCA investigates animal poisoning attempts
Poison was discovered in Rutherglen and Stevenston on the same day
Two attempted poisonings on the same day are being investigated by an animal welfare charity.
Scottish SPCA officials are appealing for information from the public in relation to the January 6 incidents.
A large amount of poison - thought to be slug pellets or rodenticide - was discovered near the entrance to Overtoun Park in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.
Due to the amount of poison and where it was placed, officials believe it was put down with the intention of causing harm to an animal.
A Scottish SPCA spokesman said: “It looks like a whole canister was used and the council are confident that it was not them.”
On the same day, the charity responded to a report of a white powder-like substance being found in a garden in Stevenston, North Ayrshire.
The owner believes the substance was left to deliberately cause harm to dogs living at the address.
The spokesman added: “Dogs are usually very curious and will try to eat the poison.
“The poisoning of domestic animals is a huge issue and we deal with a large number of complaints regarding poisonings, and they are incredibly difficult to solve due to the nature of the crime.”
