Scotrail passenges warned disruption will continue
It's after a number of services on the Argyle Line were cancelled because of damage to an overhead line in the Finnieston area
Passengers using Scotrail services in Glasgow and the West are being warned to expect more disruption as a result of damage to overhead lines.
A number of services on the Argyle Line between Partick and Glasgow Central Low Level were cancelled and delayed this morning causing major problems for commuters.
A driver of a train used to clear the tracks of leaves and frost reported his windscreen had been damaged after hitting an object dangling from the overhead line in the Kelvin Hall area at 04:46 this morning.
Clyde News understands it could have been damaged by a a bird strike or weather.
A ScotRail Alliance spokesman said: “Significant damage has been caused to our overhead power equipment near Finnieston and engineers are on-site working to assess and repair the damage. “Extra staff have been deployed to stations to assist customers with their journey. An alternative train plan has been put in place that, although meaning changes to services and some delays, has kept people moving during the peak period. “Due to the nature of this incident, it is likely that the alternative train plan will be in operation throughout the day. Customers are advised to check before they travel and to give themselves more time to complete their journey. “In addition, other travel options – including ticket acceptance on First buses and the Glasgow Subway – have been put in place.”
The travel problems come on the day the Transport Minister Humza Yousaf will make an emergency statement to MSPs about the problems on the rails.
Some opposition MSPs are calling on him to resign and for the rail network to be re-nationalised.
Celtic supporters travelling to tonight's Champions League game against Barcelona are being told if the're travelling from Glasgow they will need to travel from Queen Street to Bellgrove rather than Glasgow Central to Dalmarnock.
