A major technical fault is causing severe cancellations on low level Scotrail services into Glasgow from Helensburgh, Dumbarton, Milngavie, Partick and Airdrie.

Network Rail says services on the North Clyde and Argyle Lines are suspended because of the radio issue which is preventing drivers getting in contact with signallers.

Scotrail has arranged a number of replacement buses and is urging passengers to check the status of their route before setting out this morning.

A tweet from the company read: "We strongly advise customers check to see if their journey is being affected before heading to the station and recommend making alternative arrangements if you possibly can.

"We’re unable to run any services on the Argyle or North Clyde routes (see earlier tweets) and do not have a timescale for when services can resume. This is a major fault.

"We ask that you make your own arrangements if you can and apologise for the disruption."
