Scotrail passengers left furious over packed trains home from Edinburgh
Passengers travelling from the capital last night were heavily delayed and stuck on crammed carriages.
Passengers have taken to social media after trains from Edinburgh were crammed last night due to thousands boarding after the last weekend at the Fringe Festival and Scotland's rugby match against France at Murrayfield.
Pictures and videos show passengers crammed up against the doors and windows on their commute home from the capital.
Vikki Wood tweeted about her experience with a video of the train from Haymarket to Fife, which forced her to decide to get a taxi.
The services were particularly busy due to disruption caused by a faulty train at Linlithgow. Scotrail tweeted to ask passengers to make alternative travel arrangements if possible.
Joanne McMinn, 24, who was travelling from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Central at 11pm last night, said: "I was stuck in the carriage right next to the doors and when we moved from Edinburgh Waverley to the next station, a family of five barged onto the train despite people saying 'please dont come on theres absolutely no room here'.
"The train stopped and they basically said that this train isn't going anywhere and you're all going to need to get off and get taxis from Edinburgh.
"At this point i was by myself, I had one percent battery on my phone and I could not afford a taxi from Edinburgh to Glasgow.
"For the rest of the journey, they finally got people off and the train started going again but it took me two hours to get home."
Other passengers also took to social media to share their experiences, including Lynn Donnelly who is registered disabled and had to sit on the floor.
A spokesman for Scotrail said: "We're sorry to our customers who have experienced disruption and busy services. We do all that we can to meet demand.
"Every available train we have is out on the network to get our customers where they need to be.
"Customers delayed by 30 minutes or more are encouraged to claim for money back via our Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app."
