Scotrail is apologising after passengers were left stranded for more than 3 hours this morning.
7:35am service from Ayr to Glasgow broke down just before Milliken Park station near Johnstone around 8.15am, blocking all routes from Glasgow Central to Ayrshire and Inverclyde.
Services remain severely disrupted tonight.
Andy Rodgers was on the train and is telling Clyde 1 about the frustration among those on board.
He said: “We stopped at around 10 past 8, and I didn’t get into Glasgow until about 1 in the afternoon, so we were stuck for a good few hours.
“I’d only heard communication from the driver 2 times, and got a short apology for the inconvenience but that was it.
It was pretty poor service to be fair, and not even a bottle of water was offered to anyone. So we sat on the train for 4 hours with literally nothing.
“The heating, the electricity and the wifi were all working for the first two hours, but after that the lights went out and we were sat with no heating or electricity for the last two hours.
“At first, we were told there was a problem with the train, and the driver said he couldn’t fix it and a recovery train was being sent.
“The recovery train arrived, but the driver then said the brakes were seized and we’d have to wait on mechanics.
“We sat for another hour, and a train came to collect us and moved over via a set of ladders.
“Bizarrely once we got on the second train, the one we were just on started working and returned to Glasgow and were stuck again for another hour.”
ScotRail have since issued a public apology for the situation and say they are trying to operate a limited service for the rest of the day.
David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said:
“Unfortunately, the extremely cold weather has affected some of our trains today, with four experiencing train faults, which led to very significant delays on the affected routes. We’re sorry for the disruption this has caused customers.
“Services on the Inverclyde and Ayrshire routes will be severely disrupted for the remainder of today. We’re working on plans to operate a limited service between Glasgow and Ayrshire and Inverclyde for the remainder of the day, and we’ll update customers on those plans as soon as we can.”
